Oh god I'm the same! I like to tell myself the buzz of caffeine is all in the mind, and feel smug instead that I don't need its tricks.

Ooh I like this. It is interesting isn’t it. I remember reading something years ago about how caffeine borrows energy, and without it you have a smoother ride and don’t feel so exhausted all the time, which I think is definitely something to feel smug about!

p.s. well done for remembering to write the post, haha!

Ha ha! I had it on my phone so I thought I could forget between using my laptop upstairs and going downstairs to find my phone and delve into my notes app! Would be funny sending out a semi blank post though 😂

Lovely post! I'm nearly 36 and still dependent on my (too many) cups of coffee per day, but this line really resonated with me: "Pain as a price I pay for a sin against my body that I didn’t knowingly commit." I feel like as we get older, we really start to tally up all our body's grievances against us through tbe years that we didn't fully realize we would pay for later. It would be cool to see you write another post where you explode that thought out!

Ooh Thanks Heather. Oh my there is so much to think about there! And then there’s the whole ultra processed thing where we don’t really know what we are eating. (And other people have made these decisions) The body is so less forgiving these days. Thanks for the idea and thanks for reading, Heather.

oh my...i recently discovered that i was gluten-intolerant overnight, and while i've always been slightly lactose intolerant, it was only when i drank cow's milk that i had any real issues, but now i'm finding that even chocolate makes me nauseous...i never considered it might be perimenopause until now... (side note: i used to absolutely hate coffee, and now i find that not only can i tolerate it...i actually...like it? what is the world coming to...)

Oh yes perimenopause is ergh! I mean I am only 37 and I imagine you are around same age, but while it’s, and I quote my dr here “not bad enough” to warrant hrt/estrogen isn’t low enough to show up on a test, I think in combination with other things like caffeine can cause all sorts of problems. I get alot of nausea too. I started tracking it and there are basically 3-5 days a month where I feel normal and the rest is stuff like this! Send help 😂

Would recommend hannah alderson’s book everything I know abt hormones which is a real eye opener for how food and hormones interact. Thanks for reading, Jeni.

Same here, used to have 2-3 coffees a day in my twenties, cannot have even one morning coffee now or I’m awake til 3am having panic attacks. It’s very real!!!

Aw man it’s rough isn’t it? I’m glad I’m not the only one but it’s not nice. Thank you for reading, Natalie.

I haven’t been able to have much caffeine for years due to anxiety and a very sensitive system! But peri is definitely giving me all the good stuff like acid reflux and insomnia, extra jitters and more health flares… it’s fun!! 🤪🤪🤪 with you in decaf life although I don’t drink tea or coffee even if they are decaf! Xx

Kylie-Ann's avatar

Ah I do wonder if I need a new drink, the more decaf I have I am feeling quite bored of it. I’m just such a creature of habit and hate change but my body is calling the shots. Thanks for reading, Lauren. Feels like we are in the same boat!

I love a chai or a golden milk!! And can actually take cacao but only in the morning!!!

Oo lovely. I need to branch out and find out more about some of these. There is something comforting about a warm drink isn’t there? I’d be sad to lose that. ❤️

Yes it’s the ritual of it, so nourishing xx
